Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 – updated 17th September

Hey there everyone, it’s SCHY here.

If you have not guessed already from this posts title, the post that your reading is going to be about Naruto shippuden ultimate ninja storm 2, which is a game – a Naruto game obviously and it’s a game that is currently being developed by Cyber Connect 2 (cc2) for the Playstaion 3 and Xbox 360. It was officially announced on December 21st, 2009 by Namco Bandai Games at a Jump Festa event. The release date is October 21st 2010 for Japan.  The US will receive this game October 19th and EU will recieve this game 15th October.

So yeah…this is going to be an information post that will be updated once new stuff is announced, so you could always bookmark and check back on this page regularly to see if somethings new has come up if you feel like it. I’m not going to be analysing the game in this post and sharing what I think might happen, although you may find that sort of stuff in the comments section of this post.

Anyways to start this post off I’ll start with a trailer.

From that trailer you can probably guess that the game is a 3D fighter, it has a few characters and it has pretty good graphics.

As i mentioned above, this game is made by cc2 and anybody that’s familiar with cc2 should know that they make games with good cell shaded graphics. I think cc2 make Hack and Naruto games only, so they specialise in anime games, therefore cc2 would naturally have a good cell shaded graphics engine for their games I suppose. In fact a Naruto OVA was made using cc2′s graphics engine, so that just shows that cc2 has some good graphics.

Here are a few screen shots of this game which show what the graphics and the game is like, you should keep in mind that the graphics are probably not complete yet, more changes and improvements should come, however the graphics should be close to completion. Graphics look pretty, we have the Rasenshuriken, Sasuke and Itachi  going all out, 4 tailed Naruto and Sasuke in an Akatsuki outfit battling the Hachibi too!!! On top of that there are a few VS battle and boss battle screens as well. There is online play, 42 playable characters, a fully explorable konoha and a n action adventure story mode similar to Naruto shippuden ultimate ninja 5. (or Accel 2)

Now heres another trailer for you which was released a few weeks prior to E3

We get to see a lot of Hidan, Kakuzu, Pain and Jiraiya. We even get to see Naruto and Sakura walking around leaving Konoha and going towards the sand village. Pretty cool. Apparently you get to walk around as Naruto, Sasuke and Jiraiya in this game, which is good since in Storm 1 you could only walk around as Naruto. There are also scans showing us that you get to walk around as Asuma too, pictures of scans are at the bottom of this post though, so we shall come to that latter.

Heres something else for you, 3 more screen shots which may be interesting.

Yeah so check that out, you can play as Lars who is a character from Tekken 6 in this game. Why? Well the costume that Lars is wearing was created by the creator of Naruto “Kishimoto”, perhaps that has something to do with it.

Anyways the boss battles seem to be one of the big selling points about this game and there seems to be lots of boss battles too. Team jutsu’s are in this game, so support characters are all the more important, there are some videos in the comments section which shows us some VS battle clips and the vids show us that you can do a bunch of new things with your assist characters, so after you finish reading this post you may want to check out the comments section bellow. There are also English voices available for “most” characters, so that’s good news for those of you that watch the Dubs. So everything is shaping out nicely.

The demo for this game is already available, it was available to download on PSN and Xbox live on the 29th of July.  The demo appeared on Japans Playstation store first and it will appear in other regions August 25th. In this demo you play through a boss battle.  Naruto and Sakura VS Kakashi, it’s the same demo people got to play through at E3.

So the game play has changed a little in comparison to the gameplay from the first Naruto storm game, I’ve played the demo on my PS3 and a few features have been removed, in the demo you can’t walk on walls, you can’t do ground attacks and a few other attacks anymore either and there are no ultimate justsu. All or some of these things may be available in the actual game though, they are just not available in the demo. On the plus side you can do backwards chakra dashes now and if you charge Naruto’s Rasengan it becomes a Odama Rasengan.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with Naruto ultimate ninja storms gameplay then check out the gameplay footage in the video bellow, you may or may not see some differences in gameplay…

Here is another trailer which was shown to us 18th August, it confirms a few more characters and shows us some cool new things.

Also here is some detail about the online modes for this game….

· Player Match – Take on rival ninja to sharpen playing skills or just for kicks with the following match types:

o Quick Match: Play deadly ninja roulette with random opponent selection

o Custom Match: Define match settings and pick your battles

o Create Match: Host a match and have challengers come to you

· Ranked Match – Challenge and defeat players around the world to improve your global ranking and become the true ultimate ninja

· Ranking System – Compare your skills and strengths with players the world over and climb your way up the global rankings

Now going back to cc2, cc2 used to make games for Sony consoles only, however Storm 2 is different. cc2 works closely with microsoft while creating this game and as a result they are putting storm 2 on the 360 and not just the PS3, but how and why?

Well does any body remember Ubisofts Naruto series on the Xbox 360?

Ubisoft created “Naruto Rise of a ninja” and “Naruto the broken bond” for the 360. Well cc2 is getting rid of competition…..

cc2 purchased the rights to make Naruto  games on the 360, meaning Ubisoft are no longer allowed to make Naruto games on the 360, as they no longer have the rights to do so. So for those of you that expected to get a Ubisoft sequel to Naruto the broken bond on your 360, you’ll be disappointed. However you’ll get cc2′s Storm 2.

Now what else can i tell you about this game…well, there are 42 play characters. The selection screen was leaked and it shows that there are 42 slots for characters. Thats all 42 characters in the rooster confirmed. All the evidence which shows the characters above are indeed confirmed can actually be found on this page.

If you buy the collectors edition (also known as the limited edition) of this game then you get the following items:

It was also stated that Minato is the last unlockable character in the game.

You get some bonuses if you pre-order this game too. You seem to get a code which unlocks Lars. It is unknown what region this pre-order bonus applys for. If you pre-order this game in Japan you get a nice book with character illustrations and stuff.

Now this posts starting to get long, however don’t think that I’m done yet!!

There are still a few scans left for me to show y’all Again I’m going to point out, that by clicking on one of these scans you will be able to see it in its full size, which is helpful considering there are screenshots in these tiny pictures. I recommend clicking on the scans if you are interested.

So in these scans we learn that the game includes the Pain invading the leaf arc, that’s because we can see Kakashi and Sage Naruto battling multiple realms of Pain in boss battles. We also see an Acell 2 style story mode, you get to walk around all over the place as different characters like Asuma. We can also see that Pain has Konan for support and that Konan battles Sakura. We also get to see Hebi/Taka in action and Sasukes Mangekyou sharingan. Minato is also confirmed and unlike previous Naruto ultimate ninja games, he is actually playable after becoming Hokage. Tobi and Killer bee is also confirmed as playable and Bee turns into his bijuu when awakened!!

So i think this game is shaping up to be pretty good so far, the previous installment had a few flaws. There was no online play, there was no real purpose in running around Konoha, the story missed out a whole arc. But  Storm 2 seems to have fixed all those issues, it’s a game that’s looking awesomeness. My only concern now is that there seems like there is even less combo’s in this game when compared to storm 1. Lets hope that’s not the case.
